Summit League Defensive Player of the Year Brandon McKissic is a finalist for the Lefty Driesell National Defensive Player of the Year Award
BOSTON, Mass. - Kansas City's Brandon McKissic has been named as a finalist for the Lefty Driesell National Defensive Player of the Year Award, as announced last week.
The award, named in honor of the legendary coach Lefty Driesell, is awarded to the top defensive player in Division I basketball each year. McKissic is one of 30 finalists, earning himself a spot on the Defensive All-American Team.
This past season, McKissic made his way into the spotlight by averaging 17.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. He was named the Summit League's Defensive Player of the Year and earned a spot on the All-Summit League Second Team.
With 129 career steals, McKissic currently stands at sixth in program history. His career average of 1.2 steals per game has been noticed throughout his time with the Roos, as he was twice named to the WAC All-Defensive Team before his DPOY award this year.Â
McKissic is the first Roo in program history to be named a finalist for the Driesell Defensive Player of the Year award, which will announce its winner on April 1.
