Women's Basketball Falls to Denver

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Kansas City Women's Basketball (9-9, 6-6) team dominated the glass, but could not overcome a 22-point fourth quarter by Denver (6-13, 4-7), falling 63-55.
Paige Bradford was the most consistent source of offense for the Roos, scoring the team's first four field goals. She ended the night with a 17 points, adding nine rebounds and a career-high two blocks. She was efficient from the field, finishing with 8-of-12 shooting.
The game was back-and-forth through the first three quarters, with Kansas City taking a two-point lead into the fourth. The Roos limited Denver's three-point shooting, holding them 3-of-18 from beyond the arc on the night.
Naomie Almatas scored 17 points as well, contributing three of Kansas City's five triples on the night. It was her 11th game of the season scoring at least 15 points, and her eighth in-a-row in double digits.
The Roos out-rebounded the Pioneers 46-37, with four players posting at least eight boards. Bradford, Jada Mickens and Jonaie Johnson all pulled down nine, with RaVon Nero adding eight. Nero also contributed 11 points, and her eight rebounds tied her career-high.
Denver pulled away in the fourth quarter using 54.5% shooting, knocking down 9-of-10 free throws down the stretch to ice the game.
The Roos and Pioneers will play again tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. on the Roo Sports Network. After the game, the Roos' seniors, Mickens and Taylor Larson will be honored for their commitment to the program. Additionally, the 2020 WAC Championship banner will be unveiled and the team presented with its championship rings.
