
Roos Use Comebacks to Sweep NDSU

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Following a five-set victory on Sunday, Kansas City (2-0) displayed its determination once again on Monday evening, sweeping North Dakota State (2-2, 0-2), 27-25, 27-25, 25-16.
The Roos fell behind early in each of the first two sets and found themselves battling from behind. In each set, the Bison held a 23-20 advantage before the Roos kicked into high-gear and came storming back.
In the first set, the Roos used four NDSU attack errors in the final nine points to claim the victory. In the second set, Melanie Brecka threw down three kills in the final seven points and the Roos came away with the win.
The third set went Kansas City's way from the beginning, with the Roos jumping out to an 18-11 lead. Odyssey Warren had the hot hand, placing five kills on eight attacks for a .625 hitting percentage. In just her second collegiate match, Warren came through with 11 total kills, adding a pair of digs.
Brecka led the Roos' attack for the second-straight match, finishing with 16 kills. She also sent across three aces to lead the team. Alli Schomers ran the offense efficiently, finishing with 32 assists, six kills and six digs.
On the defensive side, Maddie Renn and Alex Ratzlaff led the way. Renn finished with 15 digs, while Ratzlaff added 14. Ratzlaff was involved in the offense as well, finishing with six kills.
Kansas City travels to Omaha next week to take on the Mavericks. Omaha was selected to finish third in the Summit League in the conference's preseason poll. The games will take place on Sunday at 11 a.m. and on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
