Kansas City Athletics Confirms Positive Tests for COVID-19

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas City Athletics conducted mandatory COVID-19 testing for 70 student-athletes and staff in preparation for returning to campus for practice in the fall semester. A total of three student-athletes and one staff member tested positive.
The mandatory tests were part of a detailed protocol to ensure that student-athletes stay healthy and safe as they return to daily practice at UMKC. Kansas City Athletics' protocols have been guided by medical professionals at Truman Medical Centers and are in compliance with local, federal and university health and safety guidelines.

Student-athletes who tested positive are being medically managed according to the guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control. Current guidelines require isolating for a minimum of 10 days, and until the patient is without fever for 72 hours without medication, whichever takes longer.
Additionally, according to UMKC guidelines, the student-athletes must be cleared to return to campus by medical staff at the university's Student Health and Wellness Center, as well as by Athletics' staff.
Kansas City Athletics also has stringent guidelines in place to govern all student-athletes activities through summer training and the academic year.
Those guidelines include working to protect their own health as well as the health and safety of the campus community, including the following:

- Stay home if you have COVID-like symptoms not explained by another illness including a temperature above 100.4 degrees, a cough or trouble breathing.
- Wash hands regularly, or use hand sanitizer if not near hand-washing facilities.
