
Gurney Becomes President of N4A

The National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A) has selected Ursula Gurney, deputy director of athletics/SWA at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), as President for the 2020-21 membership year.

"This is a unique time to be a student-athlete support staff member, in particular in the realm of academics and student-athlete development," stated Gurney. "The N4A is poised to assist its members through these challenging times as we continue to adjust programming while remaining committed to elevating our services in 2020-21 and beyond. With a membership of 2,000-plus practitioners, our voice on issues impacting intercollegiate athletics is strong; the time is right to remain steadfast and continue to push forward. It is an honor and a privilege to represent such a diverse group of professionals who consistently come together to support and lift each other up, while also best serving student-athletes. We look forward to the year ahead as we identify new opportunities to support our members, activate our brand, enhance external partnerships, and affect change."
Gurney takes over for Denise Poole, director of student success initiatives at Penn State University, who will move into the role of Immediate Past President. Additionally, Ashton Henderson, assistant AD for student-athlete development at Florida State University (FSU) and Jackie Nicholson, associate athletics director for academics, compliance and student-athlete development/SWA at Albany State University will join the N4A Officer ranks as the new 1st and 2nd Vice President, respectively, for N4A.

The 2020-21 N4A Board of Directors will also include:Â Kim Durand, senior associate AD for student development at University of Washington; Jessica Goerke, assistant athletics director at UC Santa Barbara; Adam Hatem, associate director of athletic academic services at Clemson University; Dr. Kacy King, associate AD for student-athlete academic services at Florida State University; Dr. Ashley Kuhn, assistant director at Florida Gulf Coast University; Dr. Joe Luckey, senior associate AD/student-athlete support services at University of Cincinnati;Â Kimya Massey, senior associate athletics director, student-athlete development at Oregon State University; Kayleigh McCauley, director of student-athlete development at Lewis & Clark College; Marisol Quiroz, assistant athletics director at University of Arizona; Mindy Reger, assistant director, academic and student-athlete support services at New York University; Kristin Rusboldt, assistant AD for Spartan academic support services at UNC Greensboro; Brian Russell, associate athletics director of academic services and student-athlete development at University of Illinois; Dr. Joe Scogin, senior associate athletics director and assistant provost at University of Tennessee; Mark Trumbo, student-athlete engagement/S-project coordinator at Syracuse University; Ryan Westman, assistant director of academic and student-athlete support services at New York University; and Brett Wohlers, director of football student development, student services at University of Texas.
