Women's Golf tee off the season with MSU-Payne Memorial Tournament

Kansas City, Mo. -- Kansas City Women's Golf open up the fall season with the MSU-Payne Memorial two-day tournament in Springfield, Mo. on Monday. All golfers will tee off at 8:30 a.m at Twin Oaks Country Club. The program, in its 33rd season of intercollegiate varsity action, is scheduled to compete in nine events this season, finishing up with the WAC Championships in Kerrville, Texas on Apr. 26th-28th.Â
The Roos 2019-20 roster include five returning golfers from last spring: Jaime Bellingham, Kenni Henson, Hayley Jones, Megan Lucas and Victoria Pavlik. Kansas City is led by head coach Brianna Portmann in her 11th season with the program.
Kenni Henson posted a strong effort in the spring season. Henson claimed one top-10 finish as a freshman, finishing tied for 8th at the UNO Invitational, shooting 76, 79, & 77 to average 77.33 at the tournament. Freshman Megan Lucas finished the spring season with a 80.22 average over 23 rounds and one top-20 finish.Â
All five Kansas City golfers are slated to tee off an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start both days with 36 holes being contested Monday and 18 on Tuesday in the MSU-Payne Stewart Memorial.
The 11 opposing teams that round out the field include: Missouri State, UTEP, Arkansas State, Wichita State, Oral Roberts, Oklahoma City University, Creighton, McNeese State, Austin Peay State, South Dakota, and Drury.Â
Last year, Kansas City finished 11th at the MSU-Payne Memorial. Three current Roos competed in the tournament last season; Victoria Pavlik T-76th (84-85-76, 245), Megan Lucas T-82nd (86-82-80, 248), and Kenni Henson T-87th (86-82-84, 252).Â

After the completion of the MSU-Payne Stewart Memorial, the Roos will travel to Manhattan, Kan. to participate in the K-State Invitational Sept. 15th-16th. This will be the first time Kansas City will participate in the K-State Invitational.Â
The Roos are seeking their first-ever conference championship. The highest finish was second place at the 2017 WAC Championships. Last season, the team placed 5th.Â
