Women's Golf finish 10th at K-State Invitational

Kansas City, Mo. -- The Women's Golf team wrapped up the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational in Manhattan, Kan. this afternoon, finishing 10th after 54 holes. This was the first time Kansas City participated in the K-State Invitational.
Schools from several different regions participated in the Invitational: Central Arkansas, Florida Gulf Coast, Kansas, Kansas State, New Mexico State, North Texas, Rutgers, Texas-Arlington, Texas State, and Tulsa. Hosting team Kansas State came away on top of the pack, finishing with a total score of 855.
The Roos began play Sunday morning at Colbert Hills Golf Complex, shooting a combined 639 through the first two rounds. In the third round today led by a team best 73 from senior Jaime Bellingham, Kansas City shot its best round (308). A solid finish took them from an 11th place finish after day one to a 10th place final finish.
Sophomore Megan Lucas again led the team with a 21st place final finish, shooting a 79, 73, and 75 for a combined 227, with five birdies. She also parred on 34 holes, which put her near the top of the leaderboard (9th) in total holes parred. She has now led the team in top finishes through the first two tournaments.

"Colbert Hills is a golf course that requires constant engagement, and we really struggled to maintain a level of engagement yesterday during the 36 hole round," said head coach Brianna Portmann. "However, I was proud of the team for how they handled that setback, coming out today and responding by bouncing back."

"Megan and Jaime carried this team on their shoulders today," said Portmann. "They are both disappointed with how they finished their round, but know the importance of learning from this experience."
Up Next- The Roos will stay in state next tournament, traveling to Columbia, Mo. for the Johnie Imes Invitational. The team will begin play Sep. 30th through Oct. 2nd.
