Women's Golf: Roos finish 11th in MSU-Payne Memorial Tournament

Kansas City, Mo. -- Kansas City Women's Golf team finished the final 18 holes today in Springfield, Mo. for the MSU-Payne Stewart Memorial Tournament. As a team, the Roos placed 11th out of 12 teams.
"For the most part, we hit the ball well, but really struggled around the greens, making too many mistakes," said head coach Brianna Portmann. "We will use this event as a teaching moment, working extremely hard on our short games, as we only have a couple days turn-around before we leave again and compete at K-State."
In Kansas City's first event of the fall season, the team opened the day yesterday with a 306 total score in the first round, its best round of the tournament. The second round, the Roos finished with a 315 total score.
The Roos closed the tournament with a 307 team total score in the final round and a 928 54-hole total score at Twin Oaks Country Club.
Sophomore Megan Lucas led the way for Kansas City, finishing the tournament ranked T23rd, her second best finish of her career. Lucas started the first day (36 holes) ranked T34th, shooting a 77 (+6) in both the first and second round. Today, she improved and shot a 73 (+2) in the final 18 holes.
"Megan showed great consistency and grit throughout her rounds this week, especially in the last three holes of the third round," said head coach Brianna Portmann. "She worked extremely hard this past summer, and being able to perform this well under pressure should give her a boost in confidence and propel her to great heights."
After finishing up the weekend in Springfield, the Roos head to Manhattan, Kan. to participate in the K-State Invitational Sunday, Sept. 15th through Monday, Sept. 16th.
