RAYMORE, Mo. - Cynthia Diaz Rueda finished strong for the UMKC women's golf program and ended the Kansas City Intercollegiate in third-place individually. The lone senior on the team fired a two-over par 218 (73-71-74) -- including a second round low of 71 -- and helped the Roos to a tie for fourth-place as a team at the Creekmoor Golf Club. The event was hosted by UMKC and played out Monday and Tuesday.
The effort today was the first top-five finish for Diaz Rueda during the 2018-19 season. Amongst 67 golfers, Diez Rueda held the best score on par-three holes with a 2.75 average. In her four Kansas City Intercollegiate events, Diaz Rueda has grabbed three top-10 honors, including a No. 1 finish during her freshman campaign in 2016.
For the Roos, the fourth-place ending keeps a streak alive of seven-straight top-six finishes in this Intercollegiate event.
With a 9-over par 225 (79-72-74), Theresa de Bochdanovits walked to the clubhouse with an eighth-place (tie) overall finish. The freshman from Kist, Germany, led the way for the Roos with eight birdies, the highest amount on the club.
Overall as a unit, the Roos were second in the 10-team field in overall birdies in the three rounds with 28.
Oral Roberts University led from wire-to-wire collecting the team championship with a 15-over par 879 (292-288-299). Beatriz Garcia of Oral Roberts was the top finisher with a 5-under par 211 (68-69-74). That three-round score sets a new Kansas City Intercollegiate tournament record, breaking the 214 record of North Dakota State's Amy Anderson in 2013.
Next up for the Roos is the WAC Championships from April 18 - 20 in Lakewood, Wash.
