KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC softball team (21-16, 1-6) fell in eight innings, 4-3, to California Baptist (16-21, 3-4) on Friday night in the opening game of a three-game WAC series at Urban Youth Academy.
After a scoreless first two frames, the Lancers struck first with a run in the third, but UMKC answered with two in the bottom of the inning to take the lead.
Catherine Friloux started the rally with a double to right and came around to score on Sydney Garcia's double. Garcia then scored on Chyanne Onstad's double, the third straight two-bagger for the Roos.
CBU tied the game in the fifth, but the Roos again had an answer as pinch runner Macy Hornosky scored on Garcia's sac fly to put UMKC back in front.
The Roos would hold the Lancers scoreless in the sixth, but with two outs in the seventh, CBU tied the game at 3-3 before hitting a homerun in the eighth to come away with the victory.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again tomorrow when they wrap-up the series with CBU with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. CT at UYA.
