HOUSTON, Texas -- Kansas City men's soccer (7-10-0, 5-6) entered the night needing a win/ tie, or a UTRGV loss to advance to the Western Athletic Conference Tournament. The Roos could not find its form all game, falling by a final score of 2-0 to Houston Baptist. However, UTRGV lost as well to Incarnate Word 2-0, advancing the Roos through to the WAC tournament. It was the solid play all season long for the Roos that has positioned themselves in the postseason for the first time in four years.

Kansas City will enter the first round of the tournament hosted by Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colorado, as the #7 seed for a matchup with #2 seed Utah Valley. Game time is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 13th at 7 p.m CT. The tournament will be streamed live on ESPN +. Click HERE to view the bracket. More details will be provided by the WAC office tomorrow.

"I am very proud of our teams play since the Seattle game," Head Coach Rick Benben said. "We have played consistently well and put ourselves in position to win every game. We go into the WAC tournament with a lot of confidence and belief. We expect to play well and win every time out. We are especially happy for our seniors, who are having this opportunity for the first time."

In the game tonight, senior goalkeeper Filippo Errico inked his name into the history books. Errico moved up into second all-time in school history in minutes played with 5,752 minutes under his belt. Having made seven saves tonight, he now needs just five saves to move up into second in that category.

It was a shot-fest for both teams tonight, as the teams combined for 35 total shots. Kansas City out shot HBU 18-17, however, the Huskies were able to get a couple to go.

"Today's game was a really well played game by both teams," Head Coach Rick Benben said. "We both had good scoring opportunities and they broke for HBU."

In the closing minutes, Kansas City was looking for the equalizer, sending everyone forward. Houston Baptist was able to tackle the Roos off the ball and send themselves into the open field. Hugo Von Reis finished off the opportunity in the closing seconds, sealing the Huskies postseason hopes with the 6th seed.

The Roos enter the Western Athletic Conference hungry, as this is the first time any player on the roster has advanced to the tournament. Last time out against Utah Valley, Kansas City was able to defeat the Wolverines 2-1 on the Roos home turf. Now, the teams will matchup again, this time on neutral ground in Colorado Springs, Colorado. More information will be passed along when the WAC office makes the official announcemnet.
