Women's Golf: Bellingham Earns Top-20 Finish in Little Rock Golf Classic

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. -- The Kansas City Women's Golf Team wrapped up the three day Little Rock Golf Classic yesterday against some tough competition. The Roos finished T-16th out of 17 total teams.

The field was very competitive, with teams such as: UTEP, Western Kentucky, Bradley, Missouri State and California Baptist. The Roos were paced by senior Jaime Bellingham, who finished T-19th out of 90 total individuals. Bellingham finishes in the top-20 for the first time this season, a solid accomplishment in a competitive field. She has now led the Roos in both tournaments this month, having previously finished T-28th in the Johnie Imes Invitational.

"This event was the best we have played this fall," Head Coach Brianna Portmann said.

Victoria Pavlik started off the first round on Sunday for the Roos with a 10 a.m. start, followed by Hayley Jones, Kenni Henson, Megan Lucas and Jaime Bellingham. Kansas City ended the day in the middle of the pack, T-11th, lead by Hayley Jones (T18) with a great first day (74, 74). The Roos went into day two in a good place to move up in the standings.

"In our first round we had some good rounds from Victoria and Hayley, two players who help provide great depth for our program," Portmann said. "Hayley's performance should give her the confidence to continue working hard this winter in preparation for the spring."

Day two on Monday saw the Roos drop four spots in the standings down to 15th. Individually, after coming off of a tough start on day one, Kenni Henson lead the team in round two with a great round (74). Hayley Jones led the team overall through round one and round two T-38 (74, 76, 150).

"Kenni (Henson) showed great resilience bouncing back and firing 74 in her second round," Portmann said.

Individually in round three, Jamie Bellingham had a round to remember, posting a T-2nd best third round in the entire field (72, E). This round rocketed her up from a T45 place start to a top-20 finish at T19th. Bellingham also finished 12th overall in total pars (38) in the entire field.

"Megan (Lucas) and Jaime (Bellingham) didn't have their best ball striking tournament, yet both were able to grind it out and shoot scores that helped the team," Portman said.

This tournament wrapped up the fall season for the Roos, as they will prepare for the spring season starting in late February.
