Graduation Success for KC Athletics

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas City Athletics continues to elevate its academic prowess producing a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 92%, as released by the NCAA today. The Roos have once again produced results above the national average of 89%. The total turned in by Kansas City student-athletes is the highest in school history, besting the score from last year by 1%.
"Kansas City student-athletes continue to excel in the classroom," Deputy AD/SWA Ursula Gurney commented. "We are proud of their focus and drive to place academics at the center of their experience while on campus."
Kansas City Athletics also continues to produce positive results in the area of the Federal Graduation Rate (FGR). The student-athlete Federal Graduation Rate is 62%, while that of UMKC's student body is 48%.
Several teams earned a perfect GSR of 100%, including men's basketball, women's tennis, women's soccer and volleyball. Teams following closely behind the perfect score were softball at 94% and men's soccer at 91%. Men's Basketball soared 17 percentage points above the national rate of 83%, which was on pace with the national average of 91%.
"Graduation is one of the defining features of comprehensive excellence" said Director of Athletics Dr. Brandon Martin. "As we strive to elevate Kansas City Athletics, supporting student-athletes along their path to graduation remains paramount."
Male student-athletes turned in an average Graduation Success Rate of 86%, while females turned in an average of 95%. African-American males produced a score of 85%, while basketball African-American males scored at 100%. African-American females' GSR was 88%, and basketball female African-American student-athletes graduated at a rate of 67%.
One of the cornerstones of Kansas City Athletics is to educate student-athletes in the classroom and in life, and to help prepare them for life after college. The GSR of 92%, combined with a cumulative GPA of 3.34, is indicative of the hard work and dedication by Roo student-athletes in the classroom.
