Bishop's Last Second Free Throws Lift Roos To Victory Over Yotes

VERMILLION, S.D. – The UMKC men's basketball team (3-7) erased a 10-point halftime deficit to knock-off South Dakota (4-5), 65-63, on Saturday afternoon at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
The score was tied with under 20 seconds left to play after a made free throw by South Dakota, but Xavier Bishop drew a foul with :01 left on the clock and buried the two ensuing free throws to lift UMKC to a 65-63 victory. Bishop finished with team-high's of 15 points and seven assists for the Roos.
The Roos led by as many as five in the first half first when Rob Whitfield nailed a jumper to make it 14-9 at 13:15 and lastly when Brandon McKissic found Danny Dixon to make it 18-13 with 9:40 left in the half. USD, though, closed the half on a 27-12 run to take a 40-30 lead into halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Yotes struck first to extend the lead to 12, but a 10-2 run by the Roos brought the lead down to four.
The lead would remain in single digits for the Yotes until the 7:09 mark when a 6-0 UMKC rally, capped by a Jordan Giles layup off a Bishop assist, evened the score at 57-57.
USD regained the lead, but the Roos tied the game again at 61-61 and took their first lead of the second half at 63-61 on back-to-back Bishop layups. USD would add two free throws down the stretch but Bishop's final two free throws sealed the win for UMKC.
