MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Led by sophomore goalkeeper Anna Lillig (Kansas City, Mo.), who tallied a season-high 10 saves, the UMKC women's soccer came up short Friday night, as the team fell the Memphis in a 3-0 battle.
“Obviously, tonight was not our best performance, but I'm proud of our team's effort and ability to continue to battle,” UMKC head coach Chris Cissell said.
The Tigers began the game with a hot start, scoring their first goal within the first two minutes of the match and they never looked back from that point.
UMKC tried to fight back, but Memphis's defense held the 'Roos to a total of just five shots.
On offense the 'Roos were led by four of their starters, including senior Niekie Pellens (Naardeen, Netherlands), junior Kara Priest (Overland Park, Kan.), sophomore Kelsey Mothershead (Smithville, Mo.) and sophomore Reighan Childers (Grain Valley, Mo.) each of whom were able to fire off one shot a piece.
Up next, the 'Roos will continue their road trip in Tennessee and take on UT Martin in Martin, Tennessee. The match will take place on Sunday, Sept. 4, with a kickoff slated for 1:00 pm.
