FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – UMKC women's soccer held even with Arkansas into the 63rd minute on Monday, Aug. 29, but the potent Razorback offense that beat No. 2 ranked Duke on Friday night, was able to tally two goals to take down the Kangaroos 2-0 at Razorback Field in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
UMKC (0-2-2) posted a strong defensive effort the majority of the match, with sophomore goalkeeper Anna Lillig (Kansas City, Mo.) posting four saves through the first 62 minutes before the Razorbacks (4-0-0) were able to finally sneak one past the St. Pius X alum.
The Razorbacks put a heavy attack on and found a clearing, firing a shot that had too much pace for Lillig to hold on to, and her fifth save bounced back to the feet of another Arkansas player to easily tap it in for the 1-0 lead.
The Razorbacks' second goal of the night came in the 71st minute, a header off of a corner kick that easily found the back of the net.
Lillig posted two more saves to cap the match with a total of seven, and the UMKC offense was unable to get anything going. Arkansas outshot the 'Roos 24-5, and junior Maureen Bigsby (Omaha, Neb.) was the only Kangaroo able to put a shot on goal.
UMKC will travel to Tennessee to face Memphis on Sept. 2 ahead of a Sunday afternoon match against UT Martin on Sept. 4.
