She's Not Drew Barrymore, But She's Going the Distance
When sophomore Amber Grove gets in the circle, there's a good chance she's staying there until the game is over, no matter how long that takes. Of the 27 games Grove has started this season, she's gone the distance 14 times. Among those 14 complete games, two have been 10-inning showings, including most recently against IUPUI, where the Missouri City, Texas native struck out a career-high tying nine batters to pick up the win.
99 Problems, But Stealing a Base Ain't One
Senior Brooke Parker has already swiped more bags than any other player in UMKC history, but hopes to reach a new milestone by stealing 100 bases in her career. Currently, Parker has 99 stolen bases, stealing her last base in the series opener against IUPUI.
Double Down
Senior Katie Kelley recorded her 48th career double in the series finale against New Mexico State (April 30), making her the all-time leader in doubles in UMKC history.
She's Got the Runs
Senior Brooke Parker became the all-time leader at UMKC in runs scored when she crossed the plate for the 143rd time in her career, scoring the record-breaking run against New Mexico State (April 30).
Clutch Gene
Senior Katie Kelley is batting .385 with runners in scoring position (20-for-52), leading the 'Roos in the category this season. What's more, Kelley has stepped to the plate eight times this season with the bases loaded, and has came through with a hit six times. She is 11-for-17 (.647) with a runner on third base with less than two outs, and 12-for-33 with two outs.
Turn Two!
The 'Roos have been put in numerous situations this year where they have needed big plays from the defense to get them out of a jam, and the defense has stepped up in major ways, turning 18 double plays.
Up Next
If UMKC wins its first game of the tournament, the 'Roos would play again on Friday, May 13 at 1 p.m. PST (3 p.m. CST) against the winner of New Mexico State and Seattle/Utah Valley.
