(Blaine, Wash.) – UMKC men's golf trimmed a shot off its first round total, shooting a second round 282 powered by a tournament low round of 65, tied for the fifth best round in school history, by Antoine Rozner, to stretch its lead over Seattle to 10 shots entering the final round of play at the 2016 WAC Men's Golf Championship at Loomis Trail Golf Club.
Rozner started the day slow, playing the first six holes at +1, but quickly reversed the script by birdieing the par-4's of Nos. 7-9. Rozner stayed hot as the senior eagled No. 11 and after a par on No. 12, again carded three straight birdies to move to -7 on the day. Rozner would bogey No. 17, but closed out the day on a high note with a birdie on the par-4 18th to take a two shot individual lead over Grand Canyon's Jake Byrum.
“I'm happy with my round today,” Rozner said. “I hit the ball as well as yesterday, but today I managed to make a lot of putts. I started slow, but at No. 7 I got it going. I'm happy to put a good number up for the team. We have a solid lead now, so hopefully we come out to tomorrow and pick up the win.”
Francois Lagraulet recorded the 'Roos second best score with a 71 that puts him at -2 in fifth position. Lagraulet moved to -1 after a birdie on No. 2, but following five pars, fell back to even with a bogey on No. 8. A birdie on No. 11 moved the Frenchman back to -1, and after a bogey on No. 13, Lagraulet closed the round with is final birdie of the day on the par-4 17th.
Thibault Vieilledent and Jakob Garstecki continue to be tied as the pair now sit at even par in a tie for seventh after each shot a 73 in round two.
Vieilledent played the front nine at -1 with birdies on No. 2 and No. 9, but a pair of bogies on the back nine sent Vieilledent to a 73.
In an up-and-down round for Garstecki, the junior carded back-to-back birdies on No. 2 and No. 3 but notched a pair of bogies on No. 6 and No. 10. Garstecki rebounded with an eagle on No. 11 to match Rozner, but a triple bogey on No. 15 and a bogey on No. 16 bumped him to +2. Garstecki, however, finished strong with a birdie on No. 17.
For the second straight round, Cameron Wiltse shot a 76 and is tied for 25th individually. Wiltse bogeyed No. 2, but tallied four birdies and five pars over his next nine holes to move to -3 on the day. The final seven holes, however, were rough to Wiltse as the senior slipped to +4 at the end of the round.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again tomorrow morning when they tee-off as the final group starting at 12 p.m. CT in the third and final round of the 2016 WAC Men's Championship at Loomis Trail Golf Club in Blaine, Wash.
