Roos Roll Cougars on Senior Day, 8-0

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC women's soccer coasted to an 8-0 victory over Chicago State on Saturday morning, with seven Roos scoring in the contest.
Senior Natalie Righetti (Trenton, Mich.) led the Roos (6-9-4, 3-2-2 WAC) with two goals, scoring the first of the game in the fourth minute. Righetti sent the opening salvo home off a centering pass from junior Lilly Cobb (Glen Carbon, Ill.) to give the Roos the 1-0 lead.
UMKC never looked back putting up a total of 32 shots on the Cougars (1-15-0, 0-6-0 WAC) including 22 on goal.
Senior Emily Herndon (Overland Park, Kan.) also added a goal on her final true home game, scoring UMKC's second goal in the seventh minute from 15 yards out.
The Roos added two more goals in the first half, with Lexie Howard (Kearney, Mo.) and Kara Priest (Overland Park, Kan.) getting in on the action. Howard scored a 14th minute header on a corner kick from senior Niekie Pellens (Naarden, Netherlands), and Priest chipped one in off the goalpost in the 43rd minute with freshman Sammi Arch (Overland Park, Kan.) getting credit for the assist.
Kelsey Mothershead (Smithville, Mo.) added to her team-leading goal count, scoring her seventh of the season in the 62nd minute of play. Howard aided Mothershead with an assist on the play.
A 19-minute lull in goal-scoring action was ended in the 81st minute with Righetti scoring her second of the game, thanks to a Priest assist.
Priest notched two more assists to total five points, helping on two 89th-minute goals, one scored by Nikki Lynch (Leawood, Kan.) at 88:25, with freshman Mollie Maupin (Blue Springs, Mo.) also getting credit with an assist. Just 30 seconds later the Roos capped the goal scoring with Ryann Burnett (Wichita, Kan.) scoring her second of the season, with Priest and freshman Mikayla Smith (Spring Hill, Kan.) credited with assists.
With the win UMKC moved into third in the WAC Standings and will play at 4 p.m. CT on Thursday, Nov. 3 in the WAC Tournament at Durwood Soccer Stadium.
