Kangaroos Finish Regular Season WAC Play, Split Weekend Duals

(Phoenix, Ariz.) - UMKC women's tennis finished its WAC regular season schedule this weekend in Phoenix, and came away with a split, defeating Seattle 6-1 on Saturday, before falling 5-2 on Sunday to UTPA.
In the Saturday opener, the 'Roos (9-11, 2-3 WAC) jumped on top and never looked back, getting the doubles point with wins at both No. 1 and 3.
In singles action, the 'Roos didn't let up even though they got some tough battles from the Redhawks. UMKC took straight set wins at No. 1, 4 and 5, while the other three went into a deciding third set. Fortunately for the 'Roos, they won two of them. Maddie Schulte and Marina Albert picked up both of those three-setters to help the 'Roos secure the victory.
In the Sunday contest, UTPA proved to be a different animal. The Broncs won all three doubles matches, and used that momentum to take control in singles. They took straight set wins at Nos. 1, 3, 5 and 6 to clinch the match, while UMKC got another victory from Maddie Schulte, as well as Mariam Kurasbediani.
UMKC will host Missouri State on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in a non-conference match.
