LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Katie Kelley and Cinda Ramos each homered to spark an offensive onslaught of sorts, but it wasn't enough as UMKC fell victim to a furious rally by New Mexico State, losing 10-9 in game two after falling 8-3 in game one.
The 'Roos (22-24, 2-7) plated nine runs during the game's middle innings to build a 9-5 lead heading into the home half of the sixth inning. But the host Aggies rallied with four in the sixth and another run in the seventh to pull out the 10-9 victory and secure the series sweep.
The Aggies plated six runs in the bottom of the second inning of game one to take a commanding 7-0 lead that would ultimately stand in the five-run victory for NMSU.
Marlee Maples went 2-for-3 with a double and a solo home run in the game one loss. Kelley went 2-for-3 with her 13th home run of the season in game two. Maples and Brooke Parker each had three hits on the day. Parker reached base five times and stole a base.
UMKC will host Seattle next weekend. Friday's action is set to start at 2 p.m.
