'Roos Rally to Drop Northern Colorado, Earn Split

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- UMKC scratched out a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to walk-off an extra-inning victory over Northern Colorado on Friday afternoon. The 'Roos (11-11) handled the Bears 5-4 in eight innings after dropping a 6-3 affair versus Saint Louis earlier in the day.

Four players -- Kelsey Goodwin, Alex Friloux, Alex Gale, and Cinda Ramos -- had multi-hit games for UMKC in the second game of the doubleheader. Goodwin doubled and drove in a pair for the 'Roos. Emily Bevan added a RBI double and a pair of walks.

In game one, Saint Louis overcame a Marlee Maples two-run triple to knock off UMKC.

The 'Roos will resume play tomorrow against Idaho State at 1 p.m. before facing Omaha at 7 p.m.

The Roos set the tone early and never let up, controlling the game from the first pitch to the final out. Strong performances in the circle and at the plate fueled the win, giving the Roos a statement victory at home. The team will look to carry this momentum into their next matchup.

The UMKC Kangaroos opened their home schedule with a doubleheader against the Creighton Bluejays, marking the first home games of the season. Creighton took the first matchup with a final score of 6-2, putting the Roos on the board with an early loss before the teams returned to the field for game two. UMKC fought to keep momentum going into the second game as they looked to bounce back in front of the home crowd. The Roos ultimately fell in the nightcap as well, with the final score of game two ending at 9-0.
