
UMKC Alums Shine as Missouri Comets Win MISL Crown

(Kansas City, Mo.) - The Missouri Comets claimed the franchise's first MISL Championship in dramatic fashion on Sunday night as they took a 6-4 victory against the Baltimore Blast in Game 3 of the MISL Championship Series. Three former UMKC soccer players were significant factors in the run, including Brian Harris, John Sosa, and Bryan Perez.
"We are excited and proud of Brian, Bryan, John and Coady as they have been key players to the Comets' success all year and particularly in their run to the MISL Championship." UMKC Head Men's Soccer Coach Rick Benben said.
Harris, who took home the MISL Championship Series Most Valuable Player award, scored the game-winning goal with 56.1 seconds to play. Harris scored seven points over the series as well.
The Comets came from behind twice in the deciding mini-game to dethrone the defending champion blast. Full Recap
Harris still holds the UMKC single-season record for goals at 12, while Perez is the all-time leading scorer and points leader. Sosa is fifth all-time in points and second in assists in the UMKC ranks.
Also on the Comets is former UMKC defender Coady Andrews, who did not play in the championship due to injury.
