The Game
The Kansas City women's basketball team (7-14, 3-5) will head to Chicago Ill., on Saturday to continue WAC play against Chicago State (3-18, 0-8). Tip-off between the 'Roos and the Cougars is slated for 2 p.m. on Feb. 8 at Jones Convocation Center.
The Opponent
Chicago State enters the game with a 3-18 record overall and an 0-8 mark in WAC play after falling to Grand Canyon last week. Tierra Williams leads the Cougars at 13.9 points while Paris Williams is adding 12.5 points. On the glass, Layne Murphy and Chan Wilson-Stewart are tops on the team at 6.8 and 6.2 rebounds, respectively.
The Series
This will be the 37th meeting between the former members of the Mid-Continent Conference with the 'Roos leading the series 26-8 after vacating a pair of wins from 2000.
First Meeting
The Kansas City women's basketball team (6-10, 2-1) shot a season-high 56.1 percent, including 64.0 percent in the first half, to take down Chicago State (3-13, 0-3), 83-60 on Saturday afternoon at Municipal Auditorium.
The 'Roos knocked down a season-high 32 field goals led by senior Eilise O'Connor who finished 9-of-13 from the field and a perfect 7-of-7 from the line for a game-high 25 points, while adding three rebounds, three assists and no turnovers. Grace Mitchell, meanwhile, notched her second double of the season, scoring in double figures for the fifth straight game, finishing with a career-high 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting, 11 rebounds, a block, a steal and an assists and zero turnovers.
The 'Roos starting forward duo of senior Kim Nezianya and sophomore Taylor Leathers each chipped in 10 points in the victory with Nezianya adding eight rebounds, a career-high tying five assists and two steals. The 23 point margin represents UMKC's largest victory of the season, while the 19 assists are also a season-high. On the glass, the 'Roos out-rebounded the Cougars 38 to 26.

The Coaches
Renowned for her top-notch recruiting classes, Marsha Frese enters her second season as head women's basketball coach at UMKC. Named as the Kangaroo head coach on April 25, 2012, Frese brings 16 seasons of experience as a Division-I player and coach to the UMKC campus.
The 2013-14 season will be Angela Jackson's 11th season as Chicago State's women's basketball head coach. She is the program's all-time leader in wins with 120. She guided the Cougars to the program's best ever season in 2010-11 when her squad won the Great West Conference regular season and tournament championships.
The Venue
The Jones Convocation Center officially opened in the fall of 2007 and serves as the home to the women basketball team. This multi-purpose facility is 140,000 sq.ft and has enough assembly space to seat up to 7,000 people. The JCC has eight locker rooms, one weight room, updated training room, academic study rooms, concession areas, ticket booths, conference and receptions areas, service areas, storage, a media room, a golf practice room and other amenities.
Last Time Out
The Kansas City women's basketball team (7-14, 3-5) trimmed an 18 point deficit to six late in the second half but was unable to come away with win, falling 74-63 to Grand Canyon (15-6, 5-4) in WAC play at the GCU Arena. Kim Nezianya led the 'Roos with 22 points and 11 rebounds, including 18 points and 10 rebounds in the second half, for her league leading 10th double-double of the season, while Eilise O'Connor added 16 points and seven rebounds and Jordan Evans matched her career-high in scoring, finishing with eight points on 4-of-5 shooting.

Closing in on the Top Spots
Seniors Kim Nezianya and Eilise O'Connor are each closing in on school records. Nezianya sits just 29 rebounds behind Laurie Smith and would need to average 3.2 rebounds over the remaining nine games to eclipse the mark. O'Connor, meanwhile, trails Chazny Morris by 226 points, leaving her with a 25.1 ppg pace to overtake the top spot, while she trails Penny Waggener by 64 assists with 7.1 per game needed for the record.
