(Kansas City, Mo.) – Jessica Hendin recorded her 11th double-double of the season with 15 digs, 11 kills and two aces, but the effort was not enough as the Missouri-Kansas City volleyball team (22-5, 10-2) fell 3-1 to Utah Valley (12-16, 7-5) on Saturday afternoon at the PE Building in Orem, Utah, in their first attempt at clinching at least a share of the WAC regular season title.
UMKC fell behind early in the match after dropping the first set 25-19, but rebounded in set two with a 25-19 win of their own to even the match at one set apiece heading into the intermission. Early in the set, the 'Roos broke a 4-4 tie with an 8-2 run capped by a kill from Hendin. The Wolverines would close the margin to two at 12-10, but UMKC answered with 11 of the next 14, including the final two on kills from Taylor Buhrow. UVU would trim the lead to five at 24-19, but Emma Hagedorn ended the set with a kill from Nicole Wemhoff.
Unfortunately for the 'Roos, the team would not be able to clinch their first conference title in school history as Utah Valley went on to win set three 25-17 and set four 25-14 to hand UMKC just its second conference loss of the season.
For the 'Roos, Taryn Miller finished with 11 digs, while Sydney Crimmins added nine kills, eight digs and three blocks and Hagedorn registered seven kills and four blocks.
The Blue & Gold will action again on Thursday when they return to Kansas City and look to clinch at least a share of the WAC title when Texas-Pan American visits the SRC at 7 p.m.
