(Kansas City, Mo.) – Emma Hagedorn hit a WAC season-high .750 with 16 kills and six blocks to lead the Missouri-Kansas City volleyball team (22-4, 10-1) to a 3-1 win over Seattle at the Connolly Center in Seattle, Wash.
The 10 WAC wins by the 'Roos ties the school record for conference wins in a season, while the Kangaroos magic number for a WAC title now stands at one with three regular season matches remaining. With the win, the 'Roos have clinched at least a second place finish in the conference standings and at least the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament.
In the match, UMKC dropped the opening set 25-20, before rebounding to even the match at one set a piece with a 27-25 set two win. The two teams were tied at 10-10 midway through the set, but the Kangaroos scored eight of the next 11 points to take an 18-13 lead. The 'Roos would then have three shots at set point after taking a 24-20 lead, but a 4-0 Redhawk run tied the score at 24-24. The two teams then traded points before an SU service error and kill from Jessica Hendin sent the two teams to the locker room tied.
Coming out of the break, the 'Roos jumped all over Seattle with Skyler Muff tallying a pair of kills over the first five points as UMKC built a 4-1 lead. Seattle trimmed the margin to one with the next two points, but Kansas City followed with six straight and 11 of the next 12 with three kills from Hagedorn and two from Hendin accounting for the final five points of the rally. The Redhawks would get no closer than eight the rest of the way as the 'Roos built a 2-1 lead with a 25-14 victory.
The 'Roos then put the match away in the third set, opening the final stanza on a 15-5 run. Seattle battled back to slice the lead to three late at 23-20, but a kill from Muff and an ace from Hendin ended the set 25-20 in favor of the Kangaroos.
For the 'Roos, Hendin finished with 12 kills and 12 digs for her 10th double-double of the season, while Crimmins added 10 kills, five digs and four blocks.
Defensively for UMKC, Taryn Miller notched a team-high 18 digs and Melissa Hartsel tallied five of the teams 11 blocks.
The Blue & Gold will look to trim their magic number to one and set a new school record for conference wins when they head to Orem, Utah, to take on Utah Valley at 2 p.m. CT on Saturday.
