(Kansas City, Mo.) – The Missouri-Kansas City Volleyball team (17-3, 5-0) rallied from two sets down to knock-off defending WAC champ New Mexico State (10-7, 4-2), extend their win streak to 13 matches and maintain their first place conference standing on Thursday night at the Pan American Center in Las Cruces, N.M.
Offensively, Jessica Hendin (14), Sydney Crimmins (12), Skyler Muff (11) and Melissa Hartsel (10) all reached double-figure kills, with Hartsel hitting .444 and Muff hitting .429. Crimmins and Hendin, meanwhile, registered 13 and 12 digs, respectively to notch double-doubles.
The 'Roos started off the match in a hole, dropping the first two sets, 25-17 and 25-20.
In the third set, the 'Roos struck early building an 18-9 lead after back-to-back kills from Hendin and Crimmins. The Aggies would close the gap to as little as six late, but a kill from Emma Hagedorn cut the lead in half with the 25-17 win.
The 'Roos again built an early lead in the following set, going in front 14-8 on a Muff kill. The 'Roos would maintain a five point cushion at 18-13, but NMSU fought back to tie the score at 21-21. The 'Roos, though, would answer with a Muff kill and an Aggie error put the lead back at two. New Mexico State would once again pull to within one, but a kill from Crimmins gave the 'Roos a 25-23 win and forced a fifth set.
In the deciding set, the 'Roos kept the momentum going taking an early 7-2 lead. The Aggies again came back, taking their first lead of the set at 11-10. The two teams would remain close, but with the score tied at 13-13, back-to-back kills from Muff and Hartsel sent the 'Roos to a 15-13 set win and a 3-2 match win.
In the match, Taryn Miller led the 'Roos in the back row with 14 digs, while setters Kaylyn Brandt and Nicole Wemhoff finished with 26 and 23 assists, respectively.
