
'Roos Make It 11 Straight With 3-1 Win Over Redhawks

(Kansas City, Mo.) -- The Missouri-Kansas City volleyball team (15-3, 4-0) continued to roll as the squad picked up its 11th straight victory with a 3-1 win over Seattle (7-11, 3-2) on Saturday afternoon at the Swinney Recreation Center.
“We are really excited about this stretch and this win,” Head Coach Christi Posey said. “We knew coming into the weekend that Utah Valley and Seattle were two tough opponents, but the team answered the call with good smart volleyball and we came away with a pair of important WAC wins.”
Offensively, Emma Hagedorn and Sydney Crimmins led the way for the 'Roos as the duo each tallied a team-high 13 kills, while hitting .647 and .258, respectively. As a team, the 'Roos hit .313, their second best mark of the season.
In the opening set, UMKC quickly gained control of the match taking the game 25-17. The 'Roos started the set on a 9-3 run and stretched the lead to a set-high 12 at 20-8 after a Crimmins kill, before Skyler Muff ended set on a kill off a dig by Jessica Hendin.
The Redhawks evened the match at one set apiece with a 25-14 win in the second set, but coming out of the break, the Kangaroos regained control with 25-19 win in set three. After splitting the first 14 points, the 'Roos used a 3-0 run to take a 10-7 lead. Seattle fought back to close the gap to one at 15-14, but an 8-3 run extended the advantage to 23-17, while back-to-back kills from Muff and Kaylyn Brandt sealed the win.
The 'Roos then closed out the match in the fourth set with a 25-17 win. In the game, UMKC broke a 6-6 tie with four straight points, including an ace from Taryn Miller. Seattle would battle back to tie the set at 14-14, but an 11-3 run by UMKC featuring three kills from Crimmins, Hagedorn and Taylor Buhrow and one each from Hendin and Nicole Wemhoff closed out the match 3-1 in favor of UMKC.
For the 'Roos, Wemhoff led the team with 29 assists to go with nine digs, while Brandt added 19 assists and nine digs. In the back row, Miller finished with a team-high 17 digs, with Crimmins adding 10 to register a double-double.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Monday when they welcome in instate rival Missouri to the SRC for a 7 p.m. match.
