The Game
The Kansas City women's basketball team (7-12, 3-3) will look to sweep the weekend when they welcome in Bakersfield (9-8, 3-2) to the Swinney Recreation Center on Jan. 25. Tip-off between the 'Roos and the Roadrunners is slated for 2 p.m. on Jan. 25.
The Opponent
Bakersfield enters the game with a 9-8 record overall and a 3-2 mark in conference play, picking up wins over Utah Valley, Seattle and Chicago State. Tyonna Outland leads the Roadrunners at 19.5 points and 5.5 rebounds, while Melissa Sweat is averaging 13.3 points and 5.2 rebounds. Batabe Zempare, meanwhile, is adding 8.2 points and 11.1 rebounds.

The Coaches
Renowned for her top-notch recruiting classes, Marsha Frese enters her second season as head women's basketball coach at UMKC. Named as the Kangaroo head coach on April 25, 2012, Frese brings 16 seasons of experience as a Division-I player and coach to the UMKC campus.
Greg McCall is in his third season as the head women's basketball coach at CSU Bakersfield. Limited at times to just six players during his first campaign, the Roadrunners continued to compete, winning two of its final four games to finish the 2011-12 campaign with a 7-22 record. CSUB improved to 12-17 in year two, winning a school Division I record nine games at one point.
The Venue
The home of UMKC Athletics, the Swinney Recreation Center houses the Kangaroo administration, coaches and student-athletes. The Dutton Brookfield Strength and Conditioning Center, the Victor F. Swyden Athletics Training Facility and the Student-Athlete Support Services Office also are located in the facility.

Senior Kim Nezianya scored a career-high 28 points and grabbed 15 rebound to lead the Kansas City women's basketball team (7-12, 3-2) to a Western Athletic Conference win on Thursday night over Utah Valley (3-15, 0-5) at the Swinney Recreation Center.
Classmate Eilise O'Connor narrowly missed a triple-double, scoring 24 points to go along with eight assists and eight rebounds in the victory. Calli White finished with nine points on 3-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc and three assists, while as a team, UMKC out-rebounded the Wolverines 41-32 and limited them to just 38.7 percent shooting, including 21.4 percent from long range.

Nezianya sits 48 rebounds behind Laurie Smith and would need to average 4.4 rebounds over the remaining 11 games to eclipse the mark. O'Connor, meanwhile, trails Chazny Morris by 273 points, leaving her with a 24.8 ppg pace to overtake the top spot, while she trails Penny Waggener by 71 assists with 6.5 per game needed for the record.
