
?Roos Battle Back to Take Down Belmont, 4-3

(Southaven, Miss.) – After defeating Indiana State earlier in the day, the Kansas City Kangaroos (5-7) continued its winning ways by erasing a two-run first inning deficit to beat the Belmont Bruins (6-4), 4-3, Saturday evening in day two of the Blues City Classic.
In the first, Belmont gained its 2-0 lead in the first when infielder Mia Vierra (1) hit a two-run homer off pitcher Cinda Ramos (1-3). Nevertheless, Ramos settled down as she allowed three hits and one run the rest of the way.
With Belmont still leading 2-0 in the third, Kansas City cut the deficit to one when infielder Liz Broyles recorded a sac-fly RBI to bring in outfielder Brooke Parker from third.
Two innings later, same score, outfielder Kelsey Dean doubled to left and later advanced to third after Parker laid down a sacrifice bunt. Then, ensuing batter Jenna Rangel RBI-singled to third as Dean scored to tie the game at two. Next up, after Rangel stole second, Broyles singled to center and was later thrown at out second, but not before Rangel scored to give the Kangaroos a 3-2 lead.
The following inning, Kansas City added to its lead when infielder Marlee Maples scored from third after an error the Bruins.
Although, Belmont made one final push in the seventh as it cut Kansas City's lead to one when outfielder Kat Hollingsworth RBI-singled up the middle with two outs to bring a runner from second. Yet, the Kangaroos halted Belmont's rally as the following batter grounded out to Broyles at short to end the game.
At the plate, despite Belmont out-hitting the Kangaroos, 6-5, Broyles went 1-for-1 with two RBI and a walk, while Maples went 1-for-2 with a walk and two stolen bases. Also, Rangel, Dean and Parker all tallied a run and a hit each in Saturday evening's contest.
In the circle, Ramos finished the day allowing six hits while tallying two strikeouts and surrendering two walks to pick up her first win of the season.
Coming up, the Blue & Gold will close the Blues City Classic tomorrow beginning with Nicholls State at 9 a.m., followed by a matchup against Detroit at 11 a.m.
