The 'Roos (1-4-2) got on the board first in the game thanks to a pair of seniors. David Sarabia had the ball in the middle and dropped a pass out to the left for Mo Ramahi in the 27th minute. Ramahi hit a left-footed shot low to the far post for his first tally of the season.
Sarabia, who was playing in his hometown, moved into 10th all-time at UMKC in assists with the eighth in his career. He also logged two shots in the game, moving into third on the all-time career list at Kansas City with 120.
The two squads were near even all night, but UMKC got the better of the chances in the first half as it took that 1-0 lead into the break. The shot count was low at 4-4 in the period, but play would speed up in the second stanza.
The two squads combined for 21 shots in the second period, with the 'Roos taking 10. The Panthers tied the game in the 66th minute on a penalty kick though. Neither team could get on the board in the overtime periods, but both had shots in each.
The game was also physical, with 30 fouls and 10 cards being handed out. UMKC will be without goalkeeper Kevin Corby for the next game, as he received two yellow cards at the conclusion of the match, resulting in a red card. The 'Roos received eight cards overall.
Corby made six saves in the contest, while the 'Roos offense took a season-high 17 shots, led by four from sophomore forward Jordan Rideout.
The Panthers (5-1-1) came into the weekend with a perfect 5-0 record, but dropped a 2-1 decision to Furman on Friday night.
Kansas City will start conference play on Saturday as Fort Wayne comes to town for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff from Durwood Soccer Stadium.
