
?Roos Defeat SEMO 5-2, But Fall 6-0 to No. 13 Mizzou to Complete CVC Tourney

Against the Redhawks, Kelly Fischer, Anna Sokolik, and Emily Ott all scored in the top of the eighth to put the 'Roos up 5-2. To seal UMKC's seventh straight win, Deanna Friese (2-4) replaced starter Cinda Ramos (7-1) in the bottom half of the inning to record her second save of the season.
Making her seventh start, Ramos allowed six hits and two runs while striking out one on Sunday. For the year, the Olathe, Kan. native holds a 1.65 ERA along with 18 strikeouts.
At the plate, Marlee Maples went 3-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI, including her first-career homerun. Also, Sokolik went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Caitlin Christopher went 1-for-4 with two RBI.
In game two, Mizzou defeated the Kangaroos behind 13 Chelsea Thomas (5-1) strikeouts. Offensively, Princess Krebs went to 2-for-4 while driving in two runs to lead the way for the Tigers. Also, Ashtin Stephens went 1-for-2 while driving in two runs of her own.
At the plate, Kaelene Curry went 2-for-4 with two singles to the lead the way for UMKC.
On the mound, Friese gave up six hits and six earned runs while striking out seven in her sixth start of the season. For the year, the Kennesaw, Ga. native holds an ERA of 2.81 and a team-leading 60 strikeouts.
In four games this weekend, UMKC went 3-1, winning seven out of its last eight overall heading into a three-game series against South Dakota at home next weekend.
"Despite ending the tournament with a loss, I thought we made significant strides into becoming the team we want to be," said head coach Meredith Smith, who recently picked up her 100th career win as a head coach against Missouri State on Saturday.
"Next week against South Dakota here at home will be another solid test for us."
