
Sokolik Drives In Curry to Push ?Roos Past IPFW in the 14th Inning to Avoid Sweep

On the mound, pitcher Deanna Friese (4-8) completed her 10th game of the season while allowing four runs and recording a season-high 14 strikeouts.
To lead off the first, infielder Alex Bousquet gave IPFW an early 1-0 lead when she homered to left.
Next inning with two on and nobody out for UMKC, catcher Katie Henning flew out to center, but infielder Megan Ussary scored from third to tie the game as pinch runner Lea Diaz advanced to third after an erred throw by outfielder Larissa Franklin. Next up, infielder Marlee Maples grounded out to the shortstop, but Diaz scored to give UMKC its first lead of the day.
In the bottom of third with one out and the bases loaded, same score, Ussary RBI-singled through the left side as Curry scored from third to give the Kangaroos a 3-1 lead.
Two batters later with two outs and the bases still loaded, pitcher Megan Flenniken (6-3) walked Henning as infielder Kelly Fischer scored to increase UMKC's lead to three. Next up, Maples grounded out to third to end the inning.
Next inning for IPFW with two on and two outs, infielder Ashleigh Bousquet sent one deep to right-center for her second home run of the season to tie the game at four.
In extra innings, the Mastodons had an opportunity to regain the lead with two on and one out in the ninth. However, the UMKC defense forced pitcher/infielder Courtney Cronin (11-2) to pop-out to third as pitcher Miranda Kramer (5-2) went down swinging to end the inning.
In the 13th, UMKC had a chance to win the game with two on and two outs with Maples coming to the plate. Instead, the Spring, Texas native grounded out to second to end the inning.
Next inning, IPFW had another opportunity to take the lead, but with the bases loaded and two outs for Alex Bousquet. Similar to the previous inning, the UMKC defense came up big as Alex Bousquet flew out to center to end the inning.
In the bottom half of the 14th with two outs and Curry at third, Sokolik RBI-singled to left-center as Curry scored to win the game for UMKC.
Coming up for the Blue & Gold will be a seven-game road trip in the state of Utah over a seven-day span beginning with a doubleheader against BYU on Tuesday (6 p.m. and 8 p.m.). Later in the week, the Kangaroos will face Utah Valley on Wednesday (2 p.m. and 4 p.m.), followed by a three-game set against league opponent Southern Utah on Friday (1 p.m. and 3 p.m.) and Saturday (3 p.m.).
