
'Roos Knock Off USC Upstate In Radford Tournament

(Kansas City, Mo.) - The UMKC volleyball team (2-3) picked up its second straight win on Saturday with 3-0 victory over USC Upstate on the second day of the Radford Tournament.
Sophomore Chloe Jarema led the UMKC attack, notching career-highs of 11 kills and eight blocks while hitting .400.
The 'Roos opened the match with a 25-14 first set win, using a 12-4 run, with the scored tied at eight, to take control of the set. The Trojans cut the lead to 20-14, but five straight UMKC points, including a kill and two aces from junior Brittney Robers, sealed the win for the 'Roos.
UMKC pushed its lead to 2-0 with a hard fought 25-23 second set win. In the set, the two teams were tied 12 times before the Trojans built a 20-17 lead late in the set. The 'Roos though scored eight of the final 11 points, getting kills from Jarema, junior Emily Lucas, senior Kelsey Knoche and senior Elizabeth Beck in the run, to claim the set.
In the third set, the Kangaroos ended the match, rolling to a 25-11 win. The two teams were tied early at three, but eight straight from the 'Roos gave them a commanding 11-3 lead. USC Upstate pulled to within seven late in the set, but UMKC would score the final four points of the match for their second consecutive victory.
In the match, junior Ella Meier recorded a team-high 19 assists, while Knoche (13) and senior Nicole Kerkman (11) each had double digit digs. At the net, junior Brittany Fossier recorded seven of the 'Roos 13 blocks, while senior Christiana McQuin had five.
The Blue & Gold will close out the tournament later this afternoon when they take on host Radford at 6 p.m.
