THIS WEEK
The UMKC women's tennis team (10-12,6-2) will conclude its regular season play when it takes on South Dakota (4-11) in Omaha, Neb., before welcoming in Cowley County Community College to Kansas City. The 'Roos will battle the Coyotes on Apr. 9 starting at 2 p.m. before taking on the Tigers at 2 p.m. at The Plaza Tennis Center.

South Dakota enters the match with a 4-10 record overall and on a five-match losing streak. The squad's four wins came against Southern Indiana, St. Joseph's, Robert Morris and Summit League foe Western Illinois. Junior Alena Sergeychik leads the Coyotes with 15 wins this season, while sophomore Marina Kiefer and freshman Maddy Warder each have 10 wins on the year.

Cowley Countey CC enters the weekend ranked No. 7 in the NJCAA, picking up wins over Johnson County and Seminole State last week. The Tigers are led at the No. 1 spot by Pecs, Hungary native, Zsofia Biro, while the freshman teams with Tbilisi, Georgia, native, and fellow freshman Diana Davitaia at No. 1 doubles.
LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend, the 'Roos went a perfect 4-0 in the second Summit League cluster, defeating their four opponents a combined 25-3. UMKC opened on Thursday with Oral Roberts, downing the Golden Eagles for just the second time in school history with a 5-2 win. On Friday, the Kangaroos swept bot of their opponents 7-0, defeating Western Illinois in the morning before taking care of South Dakota State in the afternoon. On Saturday, the 'Roos closed out the cluster with a 6-1 win over Oakland.
THE LONE SENIOR
Overland Park, Kan., native Chelsea Horner will take part in her final home match in the Blue and Gold, where she will be honored as the lone senior on this year's team. Currently, the fourth year 'Roos ranks first on the UMKC career doubles wins list with 29, while sitting fourth with 24 career singles wins.
BACK TO THE SUMMIT LEAGUE TOURNAMENT
For the second straight year and only the the sixth time in school history the UMKC women's tennis team will be heading to The Summit League Championships. The 'Roos currently sit third in the league standings behind IPFW and Southern Utah and would face-off with the Thunderbirds in the first round of play.
GOING FOR THE SCHOOL RECORD
This season, the have already picked up 10 overall wins and six Summit League wins, tying the marks set by last season's squad for the school record. This season the squad has two matches left to top the record.
BOUET TWICE NAMED SUMMIT LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sophomore Laura Bouet was named the Women's Tennis Summit League Player of the Week on Feb. 22, for the first time this season and the third time in her career after picking up a pair of wins last week against UALR. Against UALR, the Gap, France, native accounted for half of UMKC's wins in the match, scoring a singles victory at the No. 2 position over Veronique Luksich (7-5, 5-7, 6-3) and combining with Suzan Lisenby for a doubles triumph at No. 2 over the duo of Luksich/Steen-Rosten (8-2). Bouet is tied for third on UMKC's all-time list with 23 singles wins and is tied for fourth with 16 career doubles wins.
On Apr. 4 Bouet was named the Women's Tennis Summit League Player of the Week t for the second time this season and for the fourth time in her career after posting perfect 4-0 records in both singles and doubles in last week's Summit League Cluster. The Gap, France native, collects the honor after leading UMKC to four wins during the weekend cluster, giving the squad its 10th overall win and sixth Summit League win, each tying last season's school-records . Playing the No. 2 singles position, Bouet recorded four straight-set wins, topping Oral Roberts' Lina Semenova (6-4, 6-0), Western Illinois' Jill Furlong (6-0, 6-1), South Dakota State's Brooke Henry (6-0, 6-3) and Oakland's Jackie Dinicu (6-1, 6-3). In doubles play, Bouet teamed with Suzan Lisenby to post wins over the duos from ORU (8-1), WIU (8-3), SDSU (7-2, ret.) and OU (8-2).
YAKOMINICH APPEARS IN ITA RANKINGS
On Jan. 4, junior Jillian Yakominich became the first UMKC women's team individual to be ranked by the ITA in the Central Region. In the rankings, the Wichita, Kan., native was placed 17th, behind player's from Arkansas, Minnesota, Wichita State, Tulsa, Iowa, Oklahoma State and Saint Louis.
ITA ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM AWARD
The UMKC women's tennis team earned its third consecutive ITA All-Academic Team Award in 2010. The 'Roos, who are one of two team representatives from The Summit League, also had a pair of student-athletes be selected as ITA Scholar Athletes for the 2009-10 academic year, as Chelsea Horner and Suzan Lisenby were both were selected as ITA Scholar Athletes.
The ITA All-Academic Team Award goes to any ITA program that has a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or above (4.00 scale). The ITA Scholar Athletes, meanwhile, must be a varsity letterwinner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (4.00 scale) for the current school year and have been enrolled at his or her present school for at least two semesters.
HEAD COACH KENDELL HALE
Kendell Hale is entering his fourth season as the head coach of the UMKC women's tennis program. Overall, the 2010-11 season will be Hale's 17th as a collegiate head coach, where he has compiled a 288-194 overall record. In three seasons at the helm, Hale has coached six all-league selections (four first/two second) and was selected at the 2009 USPTA Missouri Valley College Coach of the Year.
In 2010, Hale guided the 'Roos to a school record 10 victories and a 6-2 mark in Summit League play. UMKC finished third in the regular season standings to qualify for the league tournament for the first time since only the top four teams advanced. A trio of student-athletes - Laura Bouet, Eva Dalvai and Jillian Yakominich - each earned all-Summit League honors.
Before joining the UMKC coaching staff, Hale spent 11 years as the head coach at Rockhurst University, where he led the Hawks to nine NCAA Tournament appearances.
