
Kangaroos Knocked Out Of Summit League Tournament By Mastodons

Sioux Fall, S.D. -- The UMKC women's basketball team suffered a 68-53 loss to IPFW on Saturday afternoon in the first round of The Summit League Championships. The Kangaroos finish the 2010-11 season with a 14-16 overall record. Eilise O'Connor led the `Roos in the loss with 16 points and a career-high eight rebounds. Hailey Houser also finished with a career-high eight boards.
UMKC and IPFW would stay pretty evenly matched in early minutes of the first half, but the Mastodons were able to jump out ahead by six points, 11-5, with 13:26 on the clock. Houser, O'Connor and LeAndrea Thomas got UMKC within in two points, 14-12.
Dayon Hall-Jones would make a free throw and a Simone Bridges lay-up would give the `Roos their first lead of the game, 15-14, with 10 minutes left in the half. The Kangaroos led by five points with less than five minutes on the clock. But the Mastodons stringed together a 14-2 run to take a 33-26 lead into the locker room.
UMKC was down by seven points, 41-34, but that is the closest they would get to the Mastodons. IPFW kept a safe distance from UMKC in the middle minutes of the second half and led by as many as 17 points with 4:47 left in the game.
IPFW shot over .450 percent from the field in the second half, compared to the `Roos .333 percent.The Mastodons had three players finish in double figures, with Stephanie Rosado leading all player with 19 points.
