
'Roos Drop A Pair On Road Trip

Edwardsville, Ill., St. Louis, Mo. -- The UMKC women's tennis team (6-12) dropped a pair of matches on its two match road trip over the past two days. On Sunday, the 'Roos fell 4-3 to SIU Edwardsville (5-6) before falling on Monday, 7-0 at Saint Louis (10-4).
Against the Cougars, the 'Roos' No. 1 double pairing of sophomore Eva Dalvai and senior Chelsea Horner defeated Carli Connors and Joanna Corkern, 8-0, but the squad dropped the doubles point as the No. 2 team of sophomores Laura Bouet and Suzan Lisenby fell 8-6 to Maggie Boeckman and Rachel Webb and junior Jillian Yakominich and freshman Gabriela Pintos lost to Ali Wulfers and Laura Horning, 8-3 at the No. 3 line.
In singles play, Dalvai downed Connors, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 and Bouet defeated Boeckman, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 to put the 'Roos on top 2-1.
The Cougars reclaimed the lead when Horner lost to Horning, 7-5, 6-4 at No. 3 and Lisenby fell to Webb at No. 4, 6-4, 6-4, but Yakominch tied the match at three points apiece with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Corkern at No. 5
The match then came down to the No. 6 line where Pintos squared-off against SIUE's Amanda Miller. Miller took the first set, 6-3, but Pintos tied the match with a 6-2 second set win. Miller, though, would take the final set, 6-4 to give the win to the Cougars.
Against the Billikens, Dalvai and Horner lost to Hailee Elmore and Casey Miller, 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, while Bouet and Lisenby fell to Jenny Nalepa and Kasia Tomalak at No. 2, 8-4. Pintos and junior Jessica Ball rounded out the doubles lineup with an 8-3 loss to Stephanie Hollis and Mia Elmore at the No. 3 line.
In singles play, Hailee Elmore defeated Dalvai, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1, while Bouet fell to Miller, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2. At No. 3, Horner lost to Nalepa, 6-1, 6-1, while Lisenby was defeated by Tomalak, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4. In the No. 5 spot, Pintos lost to Mia Elmore, 6-1, 6-3, while Ball fell to Caitlin McKenna, 6-2, 6-3.
The 'Roos will be back in action again on Thursday when they host the second Summit League Cluster.
