The UMKC women's tennis team (5-10) will welcome in Northwest Missouri State (3-5) to Kansas City on Wednesday for a 1 p.m. match before heading to Edwardsville, Ill., and St. Louis, Mo., to take on SIU Edwardsville (4-6) on the Mar. 27 at 2 p.m. and Saint Louis (9-3) on Mar. 28 at 2 p.m.

Saint Louis enters the week with a 9-3 record overall, including a 2-1 record against common opponents (W - Oral Roberts and SIU-E, L - Kansas). Freshman Stephanie Hollis has produced a team high 21 wins on the season with just three losses, while senior Hailee Elmore is 18-4 overall and 9-2 at No. 1 singles. In all, seven Billikens have recorded 11 wins or more on the season.
LAST TIME OUT
The 'Roos went 2-2 in the opening cluster of Summit League play, picking up wins over IUPUI (4-3) and Centenary (7-0), while falling to IPFW (7-0) and Southern Utah (2-5). On Monday, UMKC down Southwest Baptist, 5-2 with junior Jillian Yakominich and sophomore Laura Bouet set the school record with their 27 career singles wins.
YAKOMINICH APPEARS IN ITA RANKINGS
On Jan. 4, junior Jillian Yakominich became the first UMKC women's team individual to be ranked by the ITA in the Central Region. In the rankings, the Wichita, Kan., native was placed 17th, behind player's from Arkansas, Minnesota, Wichita State, Tulsa, Iowa, Oklahoma State and Saint Louis.
PICKING UP WHERE THEY LEFT OFF
This season, the have already picked up five wins, tied with the 1990-91, 1999-00 and 2008-09 squads. Laura Bouet and Jillian Yakominich, meanwhile, have each registered 10 singles wins, tied for the fifth most all-time, while Bouet and partner Suzan Lisenby have recorded 11 doubles wins this season, tied for the most all-time in UMKC history.
BOUET NAMED SUMMIT LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sophomore Laura Bouet was named the Women's Tennis Summit League Player of the Week on Feb. 22, for the third time in her career honor after picking up a pair of wins last week against UALR.
Against UALR, the Gap, France, native accounted for half of UMKC's wins in the match, scoring a singles victory at the No. 2 position over Veronique Luksich (7-5, 5-7, 6-3) and combining with Suzan Lisenby for a doubles triumph at No. 2 over the duo of Luksich/Steen-Rosten (8-2). Bouet is tied for third on UMKC's all-time list with 23 singles wins and is tied for fourth with 16 career doubles wins.
THE LONE SENIOR
Overland Park, Kan., native Chelsea Horner returns to the 'Roos for her fourth season in the Blue and Gold, where she will be the lone senior on this year's team. Last season, Horner registered seven singles wins, with a school-record six coming from the No. 3 position, while also moving into sixth place all-time with 17 career singles wins. In doubles play, the senior racked up 10 wins, the fourth most in a single-season, placing her second all-time with 17 wins.
SCHOOL RECORD WINS
The 'Roos ended the 2010 season with a school record 10 wins, topping the previous record of eight set by the 1991-92 squad. That season, the 'Roos defeated only one Division I squad when they beat Oral Roberts, 5-4. Last season the team beat nine Division I opponents, including Summit League foes Southern Utah, Western Illinois, Centenary, Oakland, IUPUI and South Dakota State. The six league wins were also a school record, topping the four regular season league wins from the 2009 season and the five total league wins by the 1999-00 team that registered three regular season league wins and two wins in the league tournament.
IN THE RECORD BOOKS
In 2010, Laura Bouet registered 18 wins, breaking Anne Lewis' previous school record of 10 wins from the 1987-88 season, while sophomore Jillian Yakominich moved into second place on the list with 12 wins. Freshmen Eva Dalvai and Suzan Lisenby, meanwhile, amassed 11 wins last season, tying them for third on the all-time list.

Bouet, Dalvai and Yakominich are the 13th, 14th and 15th UMKC student-athletes to be named to the all-league team, joining Manju Subramanian, Kala Subramanian (2), Erin Rosenberg (4), Yelena Podorozhansky (2), Emily Lindsay (2) and Katherine Rist.
ITA ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM AWARD
The UMKC women's tennis team earned its third consecutive ITA All-Academic Team Award in 2010. The 'Roos, who are one of two team representatives from The Summit League, also had a pair of student-athletes be selected as ITA Scholar Athletes for the 2009-10 academic year, as Chelsea Horner and Suzan Lisenby were both were selected as ITA Scholar Athletes.
The ITA All-Academic Team Award goes to any ITA program that has a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or above (4.00 scale). The ITA Scholar Athletes, meanwhile, must be a varsity letterwinner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (4.00 scale) for the current school year and have been enrolled at his or her present school for at least two semesters.
HEAD COACH KENDELL HALE
Kendell Hale is entering his fourth season as the head coach of the UMKC women's tennis program. Overall, the 2010-11 season will be Hale's 17th as a collegiate head coach, where he has compiled a 288-194 overall record. In three seasons at the helm, Hale has coached six all-league selections (four first/two second) and was selected at the 2009 USPTA Missouri Valley College Coach of the Year.
In 2010, Hale guided the 'Roos to a school record 10 victories and a 6-2 mark in Summit League play. UMKC finished third in the regular season standings to qualify for the league tournament for the first time since only the top four teams advanced. A trio of student-athletes - Laura Bouet, Eva Dalvai and Jillian Yakominich - each earned all-Summit League honors.
Before joining the UMKC coaching staff, Hale spent 11 years as the head coach at Rockhurst University, where he led the Hawks to nine NCAA Tournament appearances.
