
UMKC Hands Centenary 96-54 Loss At Home

Kansas City, Mo. -- The UMKC women's basketball team handed Centenary a 96-54 loss on Saturday night. The Kangaroos improve to 11-13 overall and 6-7 in The Summit League, while the Ladies fall to 0-21 overall and 0-14 in league play. 13 players scored for the `Roos, but they were led by senior Sam Sikkink with 14 points, while Peyton Adamson had 11 points and Ashli Hill, Dayon Hall-Jones and Jade Tinner finished with 10 points.
UMKC also notched a season-high 27 assists, with LeAndrea Thomas accounting for 10 of them.
The `Roos hit the ground running following the tip-off and jumped out to a 10-point lead, 12-2, with 17:10 left in the half. At the 12 minute mark, Tinner hit a pair of jumpers to put the Kangaroos up by 14 points, 21-7.
Just seven minutes later, UMKC would go on an 8-0 run thanks to a Janee Williams lay-up and back-to-back three's by Kaycie Boyles and Sikkink, taking a 40-17 lead. The Ladies were able to chip a little off the UMKC lead in the final five minutes, scoring back-to-back jumpers to head into the locker room down by 19, 46-27.
The Kangaroos got off to a sluggish start in the second half, but quickly got on the right track with a three-pointer by Thomas and another Tinner basket, extending their lead to 24, 56-32.
Another 6-0 string by the `Roos would move them ahead by 28 points, 64-35, at the 11 minute mark and then UMKC would take a commanding 35-point lead with seven minutes left on the clock.
UMKC would end the game on a pair of three's from Adamson for the final score.
The Kangaroos host Summit League leader Oral Roberts at 7 p.m. on Monday night inside Swinney Recreation Center.
