
'Roos Set To Close Out Regular Season With Final Summit League Cluster

THIS WEEK
The UMKC women's tennis team (7-11, 3-1) will close out its regular season schedule when it heads to Las Vegas, Nev., for the second Summit League cluster of the season The 'Roos will open play on Thursday at 10 a.m. against IPFW (18-5, 4-0), before playing a pair of matches on Friday against Oakland (1-12, 1-3) at 10 a.m. and IUPUI (4-18, 2-3) at 3 p.m. UMKC will close out the cluster and the regular season against South Dakota State (3-11, 1-2) on Saturday at 10 a.m.
THE OPPONENTS
IPFW enters the contest with an 18-5 record, including league victories over Western Illinois, Oral Roberts, IUPUI and Centenary. The Mastodons are led by Amy Recht, Alex Forsyth, Katie Brien, Ingrid Ballus and Raquel Vescovi, as the five players have combined for seven Summit League Player of the Week honors. IPFW leads the all-time series between the two schools, 2-0, including a 4-0 win last season.
Oakland enters the cluster with a 1-12 record, gaining its lone win over Summit League foe Centenary. The Grizzlies are led by Gabrielle Gogas, Karen Karoub and Caitlin Young, as the trio have each scored three singles wins this season. Oakland leads the all-time series between the two schools, 6-5, despite a 4-3 victory by UMKC last season.

The 'Roos dropped their opening match in Florida against Jacksonville, as Jillian Yakominich registered the only 'Roo win of the day at No. 5 singles over Veronique Spencer, 7-5, 6-2. Against Bethune-Cookman, the squad lost, 4-3, despite strong play from senior Holly Davis and freshmen Laura Bouet and Eva Dalvai, as each notched a singles win over the Wildcats. In its final match in Florida, UMKC defeated Albany, 5-2, to pick up its seventh win of the season, one shy of the school record eight wins set during the 1991-92 season. Chelsea Horner led the way for the 'Roos, as the junior's 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles over Susan Ma clinched the match for the squad.

After defeating Southern Utah, Western Illinois and Centenary, the 'Roos currently sit in third place in The Summit League standings with a 3-1 record. This week the squad will face four other league foes with its first trip to The Summit League Championships since the 1999-00 season on the line. With the top four teams making the tournament, the 'Roos would clinch a trip to Tulsa, Okla., with three wins.

The 2009-10 'Roos are placing themselves solidly in the UMKC record books with their current win totals, led by Laura Bouet. This season, the freshman has amassed 17 wins breaking Anne Lewis' previous record of 10 wins from the 1987-88 season on the school's all-time list, while sophomore Jillian Yakominich has moved into second place on the list with 11 wins. Freshman Eva Dalvai, meanwhile, has amassed 10 wins this season, tying her with Lewis for third on the all-time list, while Suzan Lisenby's eight wins put her in a tie for seventh all-time with four matches left in the season.
Bouet and Yakominich, meanwhile, are tied for fourth all-time on the career wins list with 17 wins each, while Chelsea Horner's 14 career wins and Holly Davis' 13 career wins are seventh and tied for eighth on the all-time list, respectively.

Bouet leads the way for UMKC, as the Gap, France, native has scored a team-high 25 combined wins in the 2009-10 season, while Dalvai and Lisenby have added 18 and 16 combined wins, respectively.
BOUET TWICE NAMED SUMMIT LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
UMKC's Laura Bouet has twice been named The Summit League Women's Tennis Player of the Week this season, earning the accolade on March 3 and March 16. Bouet earned her first career honor after posting a 2-0 mark in singles play against Drake and Northern Iowa in helping the 'Roos pick up their first ever team points against the Bulldogs and their first team points from the Panthers since 1995. Bouet garnered her second honor after posting a 2-0 mark in both singles and doubles play in wins over Ferris State and Southeast Missouri State, while breaking the school record for most wins in a single season.
MAKING HISTORY
On their swing through Iowa, the 'Roos accomplished one feat no UMKC women's tennis team had ever accomplished and another feat that had only been accomplished once and not since 1995. In their match with Drake, the two points that the squad picked up on freshman Eva Dalvai and Laura Bouet's wins were the first two points ever won by the 'Roos against the Bulldogs, while the three points that the squad garnered against the Bluejays were the first points scored against Creighton since the 1995 season.

The UMKC women's tennis program has been picked to finish fifth in The Summit League Preseason Poll in a vote of the league's nine head coaches. The 'Roos received 42 points, which was just three points out of third place. After finishing fifth in The Summit League in 2009, the squad will look to its four returning letterwinners and three promising freshmen to improve on that position.
HEAD COACH KENDELL HALE
Head Coach Kendell Hale is entering his third season as the head coach of the UMKC men's and women's tennis program. Hale has made great strides with the women's program in his first two years, as he helped the team snap their 58-match losing streak in 2008 before posting five victories in 2009. The five wins were the most for the program since the 1999-00 season.
Before joining the UMKC coaching staff, Hale spent 11 years as the head coach at Rockhurst University, where he led the Hawks to nine NCAA Tournament appearances.
