
?Roos Notch A Pair Of Wins On First Day Of Dakota?s Round Robin Tournament

In the first game, the Coyotes took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning before the 'Roos responded with five runs in the bottom half of the inning. The squad notched its first run when Kelly Fischer's RBI single with the bases loaded knocked in Taylor Hill, before Anna Sokolik's single scored Lindsey Davis. Clean-up hitter Emily Ott then cleared the bases with a three-run double.
South Dakota cut the lead to one with a single run in the third and two runs in the fifth, but UMKC would tack on two runs of its own in the fifth to push the lead to 7-4 on Kaelene Curry's two-run double that scored Carli Slagle and Danielle Bennefeld.
The Coyotes tacked on another run in the seventh, but Ott would come in and shut them down for the first UMKC save of the year.
Sokolik picked up the win on the mound for the 'Roos, tossing six plus innings allowing three earned runs, while striking out three. At the plate, Sokolik notched three hits, while Ott added two.
In game two, the 'Roos jumped out to an early lead with a single run in the first inning when Kaelene Curry scored on a wild pitch after reaching on an error.
UMKC then pushed its lead to 2-0 in the third when Kelly Fischer knocked in a pinch running Rhiannon Mendez.
The Fighting Sioux would then attempt to comeback, putting two runs on the board in the fourth to cut the lead to one, but Friese would settle down and strikeout seven of the final 10 batters to pick up her fifth win of the season.
In the game, Megan Vicino recorded two of the three 'Roo hits, with Curry registering the third, while the shortstop also scored two of the three UMKC runs.
The teams will be back in action again tomorrow starting at 11 a.m. for the final day of the Dakota's Round Robin Tournament.
