After a scoreless first inning, UMKC took an early lead in the bottom of the second on RBI singles by Ashley Whiteside and Curry. Whiteside's base hit drove in Amanda Kinn who had singled earlier in the inning, while Curry's single knocked in Lauren Rodrigues and Whiteside to give the 'Roos a, 3-0, advantage.
EIU cut the lead to 3-2, with single runs in the third and fourth inning of UMKC pitcher Deanna Friese, before adding four runs in the fifth to take a, 6-3, lead in the contest.
The 'Roos would cut the deficit to two in the bottom half of the inning when Curry scored on Megan Vicino's RBI single, but the Panthers added four unearned runs in the sixth to push their lead to 10-4.
UMKC began its comeback attempt when Carli Slagle led off the seventh with a single, advanced to third on an error by the EIU right fielder and scored on Curry's groundout, but that was all the squad could mount as the panthers retired the next two 'Roo hitters.
Emily Ott recorded the squad's only extra-base hit with a double in the first, while the team finished the game with no strike outs. On the mound, Deanna Friese took the loss as the freshman went 4.2 innings, allowing eight hits and six runs while striking out five. In relief, sophomore Anna Sokolik tossed 2.1 innings, allowing three hits and no earned runs, while striking out four.
