THE SETTING
The UMKC men's basketball team will look to build off its win over IPFW when it welcomes league-leading Oakland to Kansas City for a Saturday night contest. The 'Roos and Golden Grizzlies will square off at Municipal Auditorium beginning at 7:05 p.m. OU is one game ahead of IUPUI at 13-1 for first place in The Summit League, while UMKC is 5-8 in league play, which puts it in seventh place.
SUMMIT LEAGUE FOOD FIGHT
UMKC student-athletes will be collecting canned goods/cash donations prior to the UMKC-Oakland basketball doubleheader on Saturday at Municipal Auditorium. Fans are encouraged to donate canned goods or cash as the 'Roos compete against the other nine Summit League schools in the "Food Fight". All collected goods/cash will be donated to Harvesters in Kansas City.

LAST TIME OUT
The 'Roos used a stellar second half en route to a 65-56 victory over IPFW on Thursday night at Municipal Auditorium. UMKC scored points on 16-of-its-final-20 possessions in the game to turn a nine point deficit at the 12-minute mark into a 65-56 win. Four UMKC players reached double digits with Jay Couisnard leading the way with 20 points and 10 boards. Spencer Johnson also tallied a double-double for the squad, finishing with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
THE COACHES
Head Coach Matt Brown is in his third season with the UMKC men's basketball program, where he has compiled an 29-58 overall record and has coached three players to all-Summit League recognition. Former forward Dane Brumagin was a second team all-league honoree and Reggie Hamilton was an all-newcomer team selection in 2007-08, while Brumagin earned an honorable mention all-league nod in 2008-09. Last season, Brown guided the 'Roos to a pair of wins over Missouri Valley Conference foes Wichita State and Bradley. It was just the third time in school history for the team to beat two MVC teams in the same season.
Greg Kampe is in his 26th season as the head coach of the Oakland men's basketball program, where he has compiled a 438-322 overall record. Kampe guided the Golden Grizzlies to the NCAA Tournament in 2004-05 and has led the squad to seven 20-win seasons, including a Division I record 23 victories last season.
UMKC-OU - FIRST MEETING - JAN. 14, 2010
The Kangaroos dropped a hard fought 87-73 decision at Oakland on Jan. 14 at the Athletics Center O'Rena. The 'Roos trailed by 17 points late in the first half before rallying to within four points midway through half two. OU then responded with a 10-0 run to take control of the game before securing the 14-point victory. Three UMKC players reached double digits in the defeat with Spencer Johnson leading the way with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Four OU players landed in double digits with Keith Benson (22 pts., 13 boards) and Johnathon Jones (13 pts., 12 assists) both recording double-doubles.
SCOUTING OAKLAND
Oakland, which is ranked 14th in the latest CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25, has won four straight and 13-of-14 to push its record to 19-8 overall and 13-1 in Summit League play this season. On Thursday, the Grizzlies raced out to a 61-40 halftime lead at Southern Utah before going on to the 85-72 victory.
Four OU players are averaging in double figures on the season with Keith Benson leading the way with 17.1 points and 9.9 rebounds. The center is shooting .534 from the floor and .745 from the free throw line to go along with a league-best 87 blocks. Forward Derick Nelson is second on the squad with 12.1 points and 6.1 boards, guard Johnathon Jones averages 11.4 points and 6.4 assists and Larry Wright adds 10.5 points with a team-best 89.3 free throw percentage.
Oakland shoots .441 from the field, .320 from long range and .714 from the charity stripe en route to scoring a league-high 75.3 points per outing. The Grizzlies also average 13.5 assists per game and are +4.2 on the glass.

• Oakland will be going for its 20th victory of the season on Saturday night against the 'Roos. It would be the team's second straight 20-win season, as it finished with a school record 23 victories in 2008-09.
• The Grizzlies lone league loss came at IUPUI on Jan. 28 when they lost by 24 points (78-54). The game ended OU's league-record tying 16-game winning streak that dated back to last season.

'ROOS WIN 11TH GAME
UMKC secured its 11th victory of the season with its 65-56 win over IPFW on Feb. 11 at Municipal Auditorium. The 11 wins match the program-high total during the Matt Brown era, as the squad went 11-21 in his inaugural season in 2006-07. This season, UMKC has made a great deal of improvement, as it has surpassed last season's overall (7), league (3) and road (3) win totals.
ROCKMANN TO MAKE HIS 'ROO DEBUT ON FEB. 18
Freshman Max Rockmann will be eligible to make his long awaited UMKC debut on Feb. 18 at IUPUI. The forward had to sit out the first 25 games of the season due to transfer regulations and NCAA rules regarding amateurism. The Germany native came to UMKC after playing for the Alba Berlin 2 team last season.
INCHING TOWARDS THE SUMMIT
The 'Roos have been much more competitive in Summit League play this season, as the squad has posted five wins thus far, up from three a season ago. In the team's eight league losses, UMKC has either held or been tied for the lead in the second half in four contests, before ultimately falling. Seven of the team's league games have been decided by five points or less with the 'Roos being 4-3 in such contests.
UNDERSIZED JOHNSON CONTINUES BATTLING ON THE BOARDS
Junior Spencer Johnson finished with a season-high 11 boards in the win over IPFW to give him a double-digit rebound total in two of the last three games and in four contests on the year. Johnson has a total of 11 double-digit rebounding games in his Kangaroo career. The Illinois native is pacing the squad on the glass for the second straight year, pulling down a team-high 6.0 boards per game. Should Johnson continue to lead the squad on the glass, he will become the first player since Jimmy Keller (1997-99) to pace the team on the boards in consecutive seasons.
MUSHATT BATTLES FLU BUG; SCORES 12 POINTS IN WIN OVER IPFW
Sophomore LaTreze Mushatt battled the stomach flu on Thursday night, but still managed to gut out a 12-point, six rebound performance in the win over IPFW. The forward was 4-of-8 from the floor and a perfect 2-of-2 from long range.
On the year, Mushatt has provided the 'Roos with a steady scoring option, as he has reached double figures in 14 contests. In the road win at Centenary on Dec. 5, the Michigan native tallied his first career double-double, as he finished with 17 points and 10 boards.
Mushatt is averaging 10.6 points, while shooting .459 from the floor. He is also second on the team with 5.3 rebounds per game, while also dishing out 43 assists, which are tied for the third most on the team.
BACK-TO-BACK 20 SPOTS FOR COUISNARD
Junior Jay Couisnard has scored 20 points in each of the past two games for the 'Roos in games at South Dakota State and against IPFW. They are the fourth and fifth 20-point contests for the forward this season.
Couisnard has been UMKC's most consistent scorer, as he's reached double figures in a team-best 20 games. The forward has been the team's leading scorer in each of the past four games and in 14 contests on the year. He has also surpassed the 15-point mark in 11 games. His career-best performance came in his return to his hometown of Houston, when he netted 24 points in the win at Houston Baptist.
