Macomb, Ill. -- The UMKC men's soccer team (10-5-2, 4-1-1) dropped its regular season finale on Saturday afternoon, 2-1 at Western Illinois (4-8-6, 2-2-2). Leading the way for the 'Roos in the match was Diego Rojas, as the junior forward scored the 'Roos lone goal late in the second half.
In the game, the two teams battled early, with the 'Roos attempting two corner kicks in the first 20 minutes of play and the Leathernecks one. WIU, however, would get on the scoreboard first on a goal from Nathan Bruinsma on assists from Adam Rappin and Jonathan Sandoval.
The Leathernecks were not done with their scoring, adding their second goal less than three minutes later on a shot by Alexis Dominguez that snuck past UMKC goalkeeper Ken Cooper and gave them a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
Coming out of the break, the 'Roos would settle down and shutout the Leathernecks in the second half.
UMKC though would be unable to cut into the WIU lead, getting their lone goal from Rojas in the 90th minute of play.
In the match, Cooper notched five saves, all in the first half, while Kyle Martin recorded one in the second half.
UMKC will now be off until next Friday at 10 a.m. when they take part in The Summit Championship as the league champion.
