Tulsa, Okla. -- Despite leading for the majority of the game, the Kangaroos lost the battle in the final six minutes and dropped a Summit League game at Oral Roberts, 68-59. The loss to the Golden Eagles puts UMKC at 9-11 overall and 4-5 in the league, while Oral Roberts improves to 11-9 overall and 4-5 in league action.
Chazny Morris led the Kangaroos with 21 points, while Heather Davis finished with 12 and Kalei Nance brought down 11 rebounds. UMKC couldn't stop the Oral Roberts offense, which was led by Georgia Jones with 23 points and Janae Voelker with 14 points.
UMKC led by as many as 12 points with 15:46 left in the second half. Oral Roberts, however, fought back and used a 6-0 run with under six minutes remaining would be too much for the Kangaroos to overcome. The closest UMKC would get to Oral Roberts would be five points (61-56), following a free throw from Morris with 1:54 remaining.
Despite the loss, the Kangaroos put together a decent first half and headed in to the locker room with a 35-32 lead. UMKC jumped out to an early lead in the opening minutes and UMKC took its biggest lead of the half with 14 minutes remaining off of a three-pointer from Morris, to go up 14-8.
The Golden Eagles got to within one point following a Cristal Turner lay-up and took their first lead of the night off of a Jones three, making it 21-19 with 7:57 left in the first half. UMKC wouldn't allow Oral Roberts to stay ahead for long as a Morris three put the Kangaroos back out on top, 25-24, with 5:57 left in the opening 20 minutes.
UMKC will return home for a three-game home stand beginning with a Saturday afternoon match-up against IUPUI. The game will be held at Kemper Arena beginning at 4 p.m.
