810 WHB?s Steven St. John To Provide Color Commentary For UMKC Men?s Basketball

Kansas City, Mo. -- Director of Athletics Tim Hall announced this morning on “The Border Patrol” that the show's host - Steven St. John - will serve as the color commentator for the UMKC men's basketball team next season. St. John will join play-by-play analyst Steven Davis as the duo that will serve as the radio voices of the Kangaroos.
“We are fortunate to get such a well-respected radio personality to join our men's basketball broadcasts,” said Hall. “Steven has become one of the most recognizable voices in Kansas City, and we're excited to have him come full circle and be a part of the UMKC Athletics Department.”
St. John began his work with Union Broadcasting in 1998 when he hosted a weekly boxing segment on Chad Boeger's afternoon show. He then parlayed that into a weekly boxing show that he hosted with his close friend, the late Randie Carver. In 1999, St. John was hired full-time to host the evening show on Sports Radio 810 WHB. “The Steven St. John Show” was on the air for two years before St. John was promoted to morning drive as co-host of “Jason Whitlock's Neighborhood” for three years.
St. John then took a chance and made the switch to the FM dial in 2003 where he co-hosted morning drive on 97.3 the Planet with Randy Miller, then Doug Medlock. After experimenting with the FM frequencies, St. John returned to WHB as the host of “The Border Patrol” in 2005, a show that he still hosts today with Nate Bukaty.
During his time with Union Broadcasting, St. John has also co-hosted shows with a variety of personalities such as Dennis Evans, Vic Faust, Otis Taylor, Alexi Lalas, Tony Meola, Marcus Spears, Kendall Gammon and Jared Allen as well as UMKC head men's basketball coach Matt Brown's weekly press conference.
St.John has also served as ring announcer on ESPN2's Wednesday Night Fights. Additionally, he was part owner of Titan Entertainment, a boxing/mixed martial arts promotion company that was responsible for bringing ESPN and Showtime nationally televised boxing cards to Kansas City along with the first live boxing card ever held at Historic Union Station. He has also served as a color analyst for boxing and MMA broadcasts on Metro Sports.
St. John was born and raised in the Northeast neighborhood of Kansas City, Mo., where he graduated from St. Pius X High School in 1990. He then attended Missouri Western State University for two years before transferring to UMKC where he graduated with an English degree in 1996. During his time at UMKC, St. John served as a student manager with the Kangaroo men's basketball program, and he was the editor of the student newspaper, the University News.
