Scott Thode became a member of the Academic Support Office in August of 2012. He is currently pursuing his Master's degree in Counseling and Guidance with an emphasis in couples and family.
As a Graduate Assistant with SASSO, Thode meets with student-athletes individually to help them balance the demands of academics, athletics, and social life. His primary tasks include monitoring/tracking grades, helping student-athletes utilize their strengths and improve on areas of further development, and providing academic skill instruction. In addition, Thode is a supportive mentor that offers an open, pressure-free environment where student-athletes can discuss their concerns and explore their future goals.
From 2010 to 2012, Thode worked for the UMKC Writing Center and the Center for Academic Development as a writing consultant. He has experience tutoring writers of various skill levels and learning styles. Through this work, Thode gained a deeper understanding of what it takes to be a successful student in a broad range of academic disciplines.
Thode attended Mizzou for two and a half years before transferring to UMKC to finish his Bachelor's in Psychology. He graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors. Once his graduate work is complete, Thode hopes to earn his LPC and begin practicing as a psychotherapist.
