
Kansas City Suffers Narrow Defeats to Creighton, Drake

The Roos saw 3-4 matches against Blue Jays, Bulldogs this weekend
DE MOINES, IA. -- Kansas City Women's Tennis (0-4) played Drake and Creighton to the wire, suffering 3-4 defeats to both the Blue Jays and Bulldogs this past weekend.
On Saturday, the Roos did well in the singles matches, taking three out of the six matchups. Amal Gati defeated Sophie Schwartz out of the No. 1 position, winning 6-4, 6-0 to give the Roos their first point of the day. Sophie Marshman took down Alem Cote 7-5, 6-3 in the No. 6 matchup to win her first bout of the season.
Then, Alessandra Xibilia nabbed the Roos final point in the singles matches, beating Ana Paula Martinez in three sets: 6-3, 6-7, 6-2 in the No. 2 position. Kansas City fought hard in other bouts across the board but yielded several other results that didn't go their way, leading to the 3-4 result.Â
Sunday found the Roos in a similar position as Kansas City earned all three points against Drake from singles matches. KC's first victory came at the hands of Xibilia again, the sophomore from Palermo, Italy took down Kristina Tai in two sets by a score of 6-3, 7-6 and was the first singles match finish against the Bulldogs.
Other points came from Cathrine Chrobak and Luciana Braga. Chrobak beat Shiori Takeda 6-3, 6-3 out of the No. 3 position while Braga defeated Jana Ruzic in three sets: 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 in the No. 4 position matchup. The Roos couldn't find any other points across the board in singles or doubles and fell 3-4 to Drake on Sunday.Â
