The newly revealed crest will serve as a mark for the Roos’ men’s and women’s soccer programs
KANSAS CITY (Sept. 25, 2025) — Kansas City Athletics' continued dedication to the elevation of the only Division One soccer programs in Kansas City took another step forward today, officially announcing the Kansas City Soccer crest. The newly-minted crest enhances the teams' brand identities and puts them on par with other top brands in college and professional soccer.
Designed by Clean Sheet Consulting, the crest was built with deep connection to UMKC's campus and the greater Kansas City community. The silhouette is simple but strong, topped with a castle turret inspired by the architecture of UMKC's historic Epperson house - an elegant staple that defines the university's campus.
Embedded within the primary mark is the outline of a Spanish quatrefoil, an homage to the iconic structure found across Kansas City's famous Country Club Plaza. The quatrefoil is already rooted within the Kansas City Athletics brand, serving as the bounding shape of the Roos' interlocking 'KC' logo.
The unmistakable crest shape is fundamentally soccer, an appropriate illustration to capture the essence of the college soccer teams located in the Soccer Capital of America.
"This crest is a powerful symbol of our program's identity - past, present and future," Men's Soccer Head Coach Ryan Pore said. "It represents every player who has worn this jersey and helped build Kansas City Soccer into what it is today. When our players wear this crest, they carry forward the legacy of the Roos and a commitment to elevate it every time they step on the field."
The crest will be utilized by the Roos' men's and women's soccer teams, an enduring symbol of the department's lasting investment in the programs. Beginning with Saturday's women's soccer Summit League-opening match against Oral Roberts, the mark will be prominently featured within Durwood Soccer Stadium.
"A lot of time and collaboration went into designing our soccer crest and we are thrilled to be unveiling a mark that shows our campus history and unites both the men's and women's programs," Women's Soccer Head Coach Jess Smith said. "The crest creates an opportunity for players, parents, fans and alumni to connect and identify more deeply with our program. We can't wait to wear the crest and continue our mission for comprehensive excellence, on-and-off the field."
Both teams are off to a winning start as they head into league play, the women boasting a 5-4-1 record with defining wins over Missouri State and Marquette. The men have played one of the toughest schedules in all of college soccer, holding a 4-1-4 record with a win and two draws against nationally-ranked opponents.
Following the women's return to the pitch this Saturday at 7 p.m., the men will be back to the friendly confines of Durwood when they battle Omaha at 7 p.m. on Oct. 4. To be among the first to see the Roos play under the newly-revealed crest at Durwood Soccer Stadium, buy your tickets today!
