Jeremy Francou and Marc Popow were honored after a 2-0 week on the pitch
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Following a 2-0 week that saw Kansas City Men's Soccer shut out both of its opponents, the Roos have garnered both of the Summit League's Kwik Star Peak Performer awards, as was announced today. Jeremy Francou and Marc Popow bring the honors home, the first of Popow's career and the second of Francou's.
Francou was the Roos' leading man on the offensive side of the ball last week, scoring his fourth and fifth goals of the season to claim sole possession of third place in the Summit in total goals. He also tallied an assist on Edin Clark's 26th-minute goal against Western Illinois on Sunday, giving him five total points on the week. His five goals and three assists on the season both surpass his season totals from his freshman year.
Popow spent all 180 minutes in goal for Kansas City this week, making five saves across the two games combined. He posted the first two clean sheets of his collegiate career, and currently ranks second in the Summit League with a 0.88 goals against average on the season. He sparked the shutout against SIUEÂ on Wednesday, making a penalty kick save in the 17th minute that resulted in Bryce Outman's goal just 90 seconds later.
Kansas City has finished the first stretch of its season with a 4-1-4 record and begins league play on Saturday, traveling to Denver for a meeting with the preseason favorite Pioneers.
